YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The Gentoo Sailing Team Youth Development Program is an initiative that was set up in 2022 with the aim to support and inspire the next generation of sailors and industry leaders.

In the second running year of the program, 12 sailors (6 male, 6 female), aged 16-23, will come together to be part of the team. They come from all different backgrounds in sailing and life through a shared passion for the ocean and the sport of sailing.

The youth sailors will receive on and off-the-water coaching, offshore racing experience, mentoring, technical workshops, internship opportunities, and 1-2-1 support in order to achieve their unique ambitions within the sport and industry as a whole.

We are fortunate to have the support of Sea Ventures, JET Connectivity, and Dee Caffari MBE as a Trustee to the program. We are also pleased to welcome Conrad Manning onboard to support the operation of the program going forward.

AMELIA FOX

I started sailing when I was eight, and began dinghy racing at school when I was thirteen. I competed in the London Youth Games in a laser radial, winning an individual bronze medal in 2018, and a team silver in 2019. In 2021 I spent a reason racing a Daring at Cowes, racing in both Cowes Week and Cowes Classics Week. I also completed in the Round the Island Race on a Clipper 68, and am now a member of the British Keelboat Academy. In the coming years, I would like to increase my offshore sailing miles, with the goal to compete double handed in offshore races such as the Fastnet. My ultimate goal is to compete in the Vendee Globe.
